I want people to know my story and my experience but I want to remain anonymous. I’ve been on the depo for a year and 3 months now, I used to have clear skin now I’ve broken out everywhere. I bleed for months on end, and I actually totaled my car due to so much loss of blood. I blacked out behind the wheel. I have terrible cramps that’ll last days. I go through a box of super plus tampons every week and I’m honestly so tired of this stupid fucking shot. I also have 0 sex drive. The reason I kept getting it was because my gyno told me if I get off my bleeding will probably get worse and there’s nothing she can do . So I finally found a good gynecologist and she’s suggesting I get off of it. Doesn’t matter how much exercise I do or how healthy I eat. The depo ruined my body. Do not get the depo!!!

I went into the depo shot when I was 20 because I wasn’t ready for kids. The depo seemed like the most convenient birth control for me and my husband at that time and I stayed on it for 5 years.
To begin, I never had regular periods and when I did, they made me sick and feel miserable. While on the depo, the first three years I thought it was awesome not to have any periods at all (only light, random and painless spotting). Then the last 2 years I began experiencing headaches more often than usual until they turned into migraines. I also had no drive, I was very moody, and my skin began to break out horribly so I got depressed. My acne brought down my self-esteem but it also drove me into doing my research as to why I was breaking out. I suspected the depo and got off it in July 2017. Getting off of the depo wasn’t enough for my skin to get better so I switched diets and became “vegan” and also switched my makeup and skin care to cleaner products. Still my skin never improved and did more research and I suspected PCOS. I finally went to the doctor on January 2018 to get checked out and it was confirmed I had cysts in my ovaries. It has been a constant battle trying to balance out my hormones, control my insulin levels, and watching out my diet. It has been a road like walking on broken seashells I haven’t been able to get pregnant for months either even though I’ve had a couple of periods this year. I wish I would of known about the depo before making the stupid decision of getting on it. I would never recommend it to anyone. |
